Stručný obsah:

Nebo, stejně jako ve filmu režiséra Stanleyho Kubricka, to bude úděsný strach, že vás zavraždí někdo, kdo by vás měl milovat a chránit – člen vaší rodiny? Ve svém scénáři, adaptaci románu Stephena Kinga, Kubrick vykresluje sugestivní scény, hrůzná prostředí, zasazuje rány jako v strašidelném snu a šok za šokem tak konstruuje tento zlomový snímek v dějinách hrůzy.
V hlavní roli Jack Nicholson (”Heeeere’s Johny!”) ztvárňuje Jacka Torrance, který se svou ženou (Shelley Duval) a synem (Danny Lloyd) přijíždí do elegantního osamělého hotelu Overlook Hotel jako mimosezónní správce. Torrance tady nikdy před tím nebyl – nebo byl? Odpověď se ukrývá v děsivém propletenci šílenství a vraždy.
