Stručný obsah:
Březen 1945. U Remagenu zůstal nepoškozený most přes Rýn. Zvláštní jednotka americké armády dostává rozkaz, aby jej obsadila. Němci se však připravují na fanatický odpor, který jim usnadní strategicky výhodné postavení. Každý pokus o překročení mostu se rovná sebevraždě. Při útoku nelze využít těžkou bojovou techniku. Pouze muži se samopaly mohou zabránit wehrmachtu, aby vyhodil most do vzduchu. Vede je kapitán Hartman (George Segal), který ví, že se se svými vojáky ocitl nejblíže smrti pár týdnů před koncem války.
