Za noci svatého Amrože položil kdosi na schody kláštera kapucínů novorozeně. Chlapec, který od bratrů dostal jméno Ambrož, od útlého věku projevoval silnou náklonnost k Písmu a v osmnácti letech složil svůj řeholní slib. Kázání mnicha Ambrože byla pak stejně plamenná jako meč archanděla Gabriela. Hovořil o Satanovi, který člověka svádí k hříchu, o lidské slabosti a pokušení. Jeho zanícenost vzbuzovala úctu a farníci jej prohlašovali za Božího člověka. Pak však do jeho života vstoupila Antonia… Francouzsko-španělský snímek MNICH líčí osobní tragické selhání charismatického kazatele, který byl pro řeholní bratry po dlouhá léta vzorem ctnosti. Do dramatického protikladu staví jeho neochvějnou víru a neschopnost odolat vlastnímu tělesnému pokušení. Ve filmu vynikají herecké výkony hlavních představitelů – Vincenta Cassela a Déborah François.
